Omron’s CelciuX° - A smart temperature controller with connectivity to match
15.02.2007
Omron introduces a modular, multi-loop temperature controller that brings reliability, compactness, connectivity and uncompromising control performance to industrial processes.
There is more to CelciuX° than meets the eye
First, it interfaces to a wide range of industrial networks and communicates with Omron and third-party PLCs and HMI without the need for communications protocol programming. Second, it has the flexibility to support many applications. For instance, Omron’s unique Gradient temperature Control (GTC) algorithm enables it to handle complex 2-dimensional temperature profiles, while the 2-PID control algorithm and fast and reliable auto-tuning algorithms reduce commissioning time for any application where fast installation and start up are important.
Omron’s, 2-PID control is more advanced than standard PID control (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) because it uses a powerful algorithm enabling tuning for optimum disturbance response without any compromise on the speed of reaction to changes in the set point. Omron’s 2-PID control is factory preset with a default setting, suitable to give fast responses with minimal overshoot for most analogue control applications. This means faster production start up, far more stable control during production, and thus better quality.

GTC (Gradient Temperature Control) technology
A control loop cycle of 250 ms per channel makes CelciuX° highly suitable for all general-purpose applications. But, it also has smart features that add value in any application. For instance, in reflow ovens, CelciuX° is a cost effective way of controlling multiple loops in many zones. It has wide placement possibilities for distributed control and practical heater alarm functionality, whilst its ability to prevent all outputs being on simultaneously reduces the draw on power at peak periods.
Thanks to GTC (Gradient Temperature Control) technology, CelciuX° can help machines used in, for example, glass lamination and coating, to reach the process temperature quickly and homogeneously in order to save time while maintaining high quality. Other GTC applications can be found in semiconductors, plastics and ovens. In blow-moulding applications, control over temperature variations is critical. Here, CeliuX° provides the perfect solution and allows machines to run faster when maximum output is required.

Omron’s ‘Smart Platform’
A huge benefit of CelciuX° is the fact that it is the temperature control building block for Omron’s ‘Smart Platform’, which offers complete machine automation from one single connection and software. Omron’s Smart Active Parts Library provides functional graphical objects for Omron’s NS series HMI and a library of smart function blocks for PLCs is also available.
When it comes to bus connections, the convenience of CelciuX° gets even better. A broad range of industrial field bus connections is possible from Modbus all the way up to Profibus. Moreover, with the addition of a High Function Unit, it is possible to connect the CelciuX° to Omron or third-party PLC without programming the communication protocol. CelciuX° acts as a master and push-pulls the data into the PLC memory area, ready for the PLC to use.
Multi-loop machine control with HMI Control, overview and data-logging couldn’t be easier with CelciuX° in combination with a direct connection to Omron HMIs. Thanks to its reliability, compactness and uncompromising control performance, CelciuX° is the perfect choice for basic multi-loop temperature control.
